A superstar manager should have a superstar player, right? Everton have obliged and now reunited Carlo Ancelotti with one of his favourite players to coach, James Rodriguez, thereby setting the scene for what could be an epic season for the Blues. Or not?
Ancelotti will take charge of the Blues for his first full season, and even though it didn’t seem like much of a break from the end of the delayed 2019-20 campaign to the beginning of the 2020-21 season, it is indeed a new year filled new possibilities, and in many Evertonians a new hope.
The trophy drought has gone on since 1995, and the less said about that the better. Toffees worldwide will debate the merits of winning silverware versus breaking into the top six of the Premier League, but we all remain united in one thought - nil satis nisi optimum. Nothing but the best is good enough, and in recent years where we have had neither the best nor anything remotely approaching good enough, maybe the veteran Italian dubbed Carlo Magnifico is the one who will take us back there.
In this season preview series we take a look at all the positional groups, the personnel that make up the Blues’ squad, their prospects this coming season and what else to expect. There’s a bit of fun in there too, with a look at which Everton players to grab for your fantasy leagues as well as the RBM crew sticking their necks out in their season predictions, where we boldly proclaim the top six, the bottom three, who wins the Cups and what part Everton plays in it all.
