Not only will there be no European football for Everton next season - there will be no Carlo Ancelotti, either.

In a shock move, the Italian was re-appointed as Real Madrid boss on Tuesday, returning to the club he managed between 2013 and 2015 and with whom he won the Champions League and Copa Del Rey.

Geno, Matthew and Pete discussed the sad news of Ancelotti’s Everton exit on the final episode of the season of School of Science Radio, as well as mulling over who could replace him in the Goodison Park hot seat. Will, and should, it be current favourite Nuno Espirito Santo?

The guys then looked back on the 2020-21 season - Ancelotti’s only full campaign in charge of Everton - as a whole, dissecting their blistering start and later loss of momentum, as well as mulling over why Everton only finished tenth and came up short in their quest for European football.

Who were our players of the season? Who improved the most? What were our highlights and lowlights of a campaign played out almost entirely behind closed doors? All of this and more was discussed on this week’s episode.
