It was a familiar feeling at Goodison Park for Everton on Saturday as they lost at home again, this time going down 2-1 to Aston Villa.
The Blues were second-best throughout, with Anwar El Ghazi’s late curler consigning them to defeat after Dominic Calvert-Lewin had earlier cancelled out Ollie Watkins’ opener from a dreadful Mason Holgate mistake.
Geno discussed the defeat with Matthew on the latest episode of SOS Radio. Together, they looked at whether, in hindsight, Carlo Ancelotti should have made more than just one change from the Arsenal victory, if he can really be criticised for his substitutions, and whether Everton can still seriously harbour European hopes with five games left.
They then previewed Everton’s next game, which sees them travel to West Ham United on Sunday at 4.30pm BST / 11.30pm ET.
The two sides have faced each other twice already this term, both at Goodison - Everton won the first meeting 4-1 in the Carabao Cup in September, before the Hammers got revenge with a 1-0 league victory at Goodison on New Year’s Day.
So, what can we expect from David Moyes’ men, who have been the surprise package of the season and still sit in the top six? Should Carlo Ancelotti go back to a back three? And is this yet another must-win for Everton?
