The Blues are staying with manufacturer hummel and shirt sponsor Cazoo next term, and have unveiled a black retro away kit which pays homage to the Everton team of 1881-82, which earned the nickname ‘The Black Watch.
The black shirt with ‘statement burnt orange’ sash, as well as its black shorts and socks are available to pre-order online or in-store from today. It will be on sale in store, as well as online at evertondirect.com, from Friday, June 4. Other fans can get the away kits at the Kitbag online store (and Royal Blue Mersey will receive a portion of any sales made through this link).
The first batch of next season’s training gear is also available to pre-order now ahead of its June 4 release.
The goalkeeping away kit is a classic green colour and will again be available with short sleeves.
Yesterday hummel had teased that they'd taken into consideration fans' feedback in designing the kits.
As part of the Everton for Change initiative, each of the club’s home, away and third kits next 2021/22 season will again be environmentally friendly, with Everton becoming the first club to launch a kit featuring hummel’s ECO8 technology, meaning each shirt is made from high-performing polyester produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles.
The original black strip was even worn for Everton’s home matches, with Everton the club not donning royal blue until 1901.
Alan McTavish, Commercial Director at Everton, told the club’s official website:
“We are excited to be launching the first of three new kits on the back of what was a fantastic first year of our partnership with hummel.
“Last year’s campaign celebrated the strong bond between the football club and our diverse fan base and, once again, hummel has demonstrated its understanding of Everton and Evertonians with a kit that pays homage to our formative years.
“The classic-looking retro design leans on the deepest roots of our history but, crucially, is still contemporary in style, cutting edge in terms of its sustainable technology and – following three record-breaking kits last season - sure to strike a chord with our fans across the globe.”
