It was another Goodison Park defeat last weekend for Everton, as they crashed out of the FA Cup at the quarter-finals with a 2-0 defeat against imperious quadruple chasers Manchester City.
Despite a gallant effort from Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who kept City out until the 84th minute, it means the club’s 26-year trophy drought will extend into at least another season.
Matthew discussed the City loss on the latest episode of SOS Radio with Paddy Boyland, Everton correspondent at The Athletic, looking at how much credit Everton deserve for their performance, whether Ancelotti should have set them up any differently, and how well Ben Godfrey and Joao Virginia fared in particular.
Matthew and Paddy then looked ahead to the third international break of the season, as well as Everton’s next match; the visit to Goodison of Crystal Palace in the Premier League on April 5.
With 16 days between the City and Palace games, is this a good time for Everton to take a breather? There are ten matches to go, so how confident should we be about European qualification? And what to expect from Roy Hodgson’s Palace, who sit 12th on 37 points and have little to play for?
