A fire at Everton Women’s home stadium, Walton Hall Park, erupted around 18:30 GMT on Friday night and left a stand badly damaged. Crews were called to the stadium ground, which has a capacity of 2,200.
Emergency personnel found plastic netting and scaffolding ablaze upon arrival and worked to extinguished the fire in 30 minutes (18:57).
The club announced that it is currently assessing the damage to the stadium but hoped that the team’s home league match against Chelsea on Wednesday, March 17 would still take place.
Walton Hall, which lies a mile away from Goodison Park, was to have renovations in the coming months to expand its capacity.
It has been confirmed that the blaze that engulfed a stand last night was started deliberately.
