It was another fluctuating week for Everton, who followed up Thursday’s narrow 1-0 win at West Brom by deservedly falling to a 2-0 defeat at Chelsea on Monday.
The victory at The Hawthorns briefly sent the Blues into the Champions League spots, but they now sit sixth, four points off Chelsea in fourth having played a game fewer.
Matthew was joined by RBM’s Ian Decker to discuss both games on the latest episode of SOS Radio, including how a tactical tweak by Carlo Ancelotti changed Everton’s fortunes at West Brom, what to do with Alex Iwobi, another good week for Jordan Pickford and more.
With Ian, RBM’s women’s team writer, on the pod, they also mulled over a tight defeat for Willie Kirk’s side at high-flying Manchester City, and how they can look to get back to winning ways against Birmingham on Thursday.
They guys finished off by previewing Everton’s next match; the visit to Goodison Park of Sean Dyche’s Burnley. Is this simply a must-win? Who is the most obvious deputy for the injured Abdoulaye Doucouré? And how should Ancelotti’s men go about finding their way through a notoriously stubborn Clarets defence?
