Everton head to Anfield on Saturday at 5.30pm GMT / 12.30pm EST, looking for their first win at Liverpool since 1999 to stay on course for European qualification.

The Blues have lost their last two matches but are unbeaten on the road in their previous seven Premier League away games, while Liverpool are winless in their last five at Anfield.

For a special Merseyside Derby preview, RBM’s Geno Gonnello and Matthew Chandler chatted to Jamie Carragher on our School of Science Radio podcast.

Carragher grew up as an Evertonian but went on to make more than 700 appearances at the heart of Liverpool’s defence, and now works as a pundit for Sky Sports.

We chatted Everton’s improvement under Carlo Ancelotti so far, Liverpool’s injury crisis and recent struggles at home, the Blues’ Anfield hoodoo, and much more.

Is this a Liverpool team reaching the natural end of their cycle after being so imperious in the last few years? How much of Everton’s Anfield fear factor should be diminished by playing in an empty stadium? And what was it like for a local lad like Carragher to play in such a feisty derby?
