Everton are continuing their up-and-down trend that they have been stuck in this season. After some encouraging performances against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, they then proceeded to fall flat on their faces against Fulham over the weekend. With Manchester City visiting tonight looking to continue their 16-game winning streak and the Merseyside Derby beckoning on Saturday, which Everton show up today?
The Blues need to start picking up points with the games they have in hand if they want to remain in European contention, but tonight’s opponents have looked in imperious form over the last couple of months. City sit seven points clear of second-placed United, and have a game in hand over their cross-town rivals.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss his second straight game, but Allan is expected to play tonight. For the visitors, red-hot Ilkay Gundogan (January’s Player of the Month) is out injured but Kevin De Bruyne could return. Not a bad trade-off eh?
Pep Guardiola could be forgiven if his side are already looking ahead to the weekend (Arsenal) and then the Champions League (Borussia Moenchengladbach) beyond that, but with the incredible depth of talent in his squad, even a second XI would be enough to give Carlo Ancelotti’s side fits.

This is a rearranged fixture with the original game scheduled to be played in late December before a number of City players tested positive for COVID-19 and the game was postponed.
City last visited Goodison in September 2019 when Marco Silva was still in charge, and handed the hosts a 3-1 defeat. In fact, City have won five straight league games against the Toffees, and Everton have just one win - that 4-0 romp - in their last ten games in all competitions against City.
