School of Science Radio, Episode 50: Tactical Analysis

Football scouting/analysis writer David Hughes joins Matthew on this week’s pod

On this week’s episode of School of Science Radio, Matthew was joined by David Hughes, a football scouting/analysis writer at Reach PLC.

With the season done and dusted, Matthew and David discussed the tactical tweaks we saw in Everton under Carlo Ancelotti, what system he may prioritise in the future and how the side improved on the pitch with the Italian in charge.

They also ran the rule on a number of individuals, including whether the future may still be at Goodison Park for Alex Iwobi and Jordan Pickford, on the wing or up front for Richarlison, and how to get more out of André Gomes.

Also on this week’s agenda was whether we should be disappointed or surprised at the lack of incomings at Everton in this summer’s transfer window so far, and whether we can read too much into statistics at times.
