Everton suffered their first loss since the Premier League’s restart with a limp 1-0 defeat at Tottenham on Monday, which made for a cathartic experience on this week’s SOS Radio podcast.
Geno and Matthew were joined by RBM’s Tom Mallows to debate such issues as: did Carlo Ancelotti get it wrong taking out Anthony Gordon and moving Gylfi Sigurdsson wide? How spot on was Gary Neville in criticising Everton repeatedly on commentary? And will we ever see the best of André Gomes again after his injury?
All of these points were discussed on this episode, before getting into issues away from the Spurs loss, such as:
- Comments made about Carlo Ancelotti by the Independent’s Miguel Delaney (click on tweet below to view full thread). Is he still an A-list manager? Has he only done as well as expected at Everton so far?
I understand that. And CA may indeed fail at Everton, but I at least applaud the club for convincing a manager of his stature and not just accepting staying in their lane. We all jump to conclusions. I'm just saying wait until he has his own set of players before judging properly

- More trouble from the red half of Merseyside as someone leaves a flare on the Dixie Dean statue
- Would Everton be ready for Europa League football so soon into Ancelotti’s reign?
The guys then look ahead to the Blues’ next game, the visit of Southampton later today. The Saints are in great form, but Everton will be out for a league double after their 2-1 win at St. Mary’s in November.
