Everton at Chelsea: Writer Prediction League

Can the Toffees turn it around after two tough results?

One of the things that has made Everton predictions really difficult this season has been the team’s periodic inability to get a result from matches in which its performance was solid. Both against Arsenal and Manchester United, we had relatively optimistic writers who felt the Toffees would play well and get at least one point.

And in fairness to those writers, they were half right! The performances against both Arsenal and United were solid — especially the latter. But football is a funny game, and sometimes the finishing pixies (or VAR) betray you in a vital moment — turning what was a good prediction into an incorrect one. Can that change this weekend against Chelsea?

Let’s look at our United predictions first, then analyze the upcoming match.

Manchester United Predictions

Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Adam B. Walcott Gomes Everton 1-0 0
Brian F. Martial Richarlison United 2-1 0
Brian L. Calvert-Lewin Holgate Everton 2-1 1
Calvin Martial Richarlison United 2-1 0
Chris 0
Geno Richarlison Richarlison Everton 2-1 0
Matt A. Richarlison Richarlison United 2-1 0
Matthew C. Richarlison Richarlison Draw 1-1 4
Pat Richarlison Richarlison Draw 2-2 2
Pete Richarlison Richarlison Everton 2-0 0
Rachel Calvert-Lewin Gomes Everton 2-1 1
Tom Calvert-Lewin Gomes Everton 2-1 1
Zach Calvert-Lewin Calvert-Lewin Everton 2-1 2

A staggering four writers briefly had the final outcome correct when Dominic Calvert-Lewin put Everton ahead late in the match. But the goal was overturned and the points were lost — most agonizingly for Zach, who would have had a perfect week if the goal stood.

Matthew C. was the beneficiary of that turn of events though, picking up four points.

Geno 17

With those four points, he moved into a tie for first place, with Rachel sitting just one point off the lead. With 10 matches to play, the race is still wide open.

This week, Everton’s trip to Chelsea has our writers a little more pessimistic than they were the last two weeks — but there’s a general sense that a result is still possible.
