Jonjoe Kenny is off to a flying start to the new season wearing blue, but it’s not quite Everton’s royal blue.
The youngster is out on loan for the season in Germany with Schalke 04, and is already making quite a name for himself after just a couple of games for his new side. Schalke are building a reputation for developing youth, with Moroccan midfielder Amine Harit scooping up the Rookie of the Year title two seasons ago.

Kenny was yesterday announced as the Bundesliga’s Rookie of the Month for August, after three strong showings and picking up his first goal for the Gelsenkirchen-based side. The Kirkdale-born youngster beat VFL Wolfsburg’s Xaver Schlager and Augsburg’s Ruben Vargas to the award.

The 22-year-old was sent out on loan to get playing time and the move seems to be paying off big dividends. Seamus Coleman remains the undisputed starter, but with Father Time catching up to the Everton captain, it’s certainly good to see Kenny making the most of his time in Germany to take his game up a few notches, much like Ademola Lookman appeared to do a couple of seasons ago.
