Everton vs Wolves: Writer Prediction League

So about our predictions from the Aston Villa match...

I make fun of our writers (myself included) for how poor our predictions are on a regular basis, but last week’s match against Aston Villa really puts on display how difficult it actually is to make regular predictions regarding Everton Football Club.

The Toffees entered the match having not yet conceded a goal, facing a newly-promoted team that had stumbled out of the gate. It seemed so straightforward, right? Surely Everton would at least get a draw? And surely they’d not concede more than one goal?

And then Marco Silva’s side lost 2-0, leaving us both angry and scratching our heads.

So that performance looms large in our writers’ minds as we look ahead to Everton’s match this weekend against Wolverhampton Wanderers. But before we get to that, let’s take one final moment to laugh at our complete ineptitude from last week.

Aston Villa Predictions

Zach Richarlison Richarlison Everton 2-0 0

It was a big fat zero for us this week — none of us had Villa winning, Wesley opening the scoring, or Alex Iwobi to be voted as Everton’s man of the match.

As such, there’s no change in our prediction league standings for this week.

That brings us to this week and a tricky match to predict against Wolves. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side has drawn its first three Premier League matches while balancing Europa League qualifying in the opening weeks of the season. They remain a moderately talented side, but one that’s already been through a lot in the opening weeks of the season.

Our picks for the match are as follows.

It took us four weeks, but we finally have a prediction for an Everton defeat — two in fact, with both Chris and Tom calling Wolves victories. The rest of the picks are split pretty evenly between an Everton victory and a draw.

Richarlison leads the way in votes to open the scoring, with five writers predicting the Brazilian. Moise Kean was another popular selection.

Man of the match predictions are pretty evenly split — Jordan Pickford leads the way with four votes, with Kean, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Lucas Digne, Yerry Mina, and Alex Iwobi all also getting votes.
