Fulltime - What an entertaining Cup tie that was!

90+4’ - It was four minutes of time added on, but little else happened apart from some moron named Aaron Lewis scythed down Richarlison, miles away from the ball, but the Brazilian limps away slowly.

88’ - Blues do want to kill this off. DCL crosses into the box, and Tosun’e speculative header is cleared for a corner, which is cleared away.
RICHARLISON!! The ball wasn’t really cleared, and Digne embarrasses his man with a nutmeg, and fizzes a cross into the box.. DCL, Tosun and Richarlison all go for it but it’s the Brazilian who makes a connection and it’s in. 4-2, and over now, surely?

85’ - Obligatory shot of Clive Nates, owner of the Imps and a diehard Blue.
Richarlison does well to keep the ball deep down the left, and eventually goes down as he gets hacked at.
Digne takes, cleared for a throw.

83’ - Lincoln refuse to go away, win a corner on the left now. Rain still pelting down.
Headed towards goal and Pickford saves brilliantly, but there’s a man offside, whew.

80’ - IWOBI GETS HIS FIRST EVERTON GOAL!! Right in front of the traveling support too, about two thousand Blues in attendance.
Deep cross from the right, Tosun does brilliantly to head it back across the goal and Iwobi is there to put the Blues ahead! It was his last action of the evening too, as Theo Walcott now comes on. Richarlison switches to the left now.

74’ - Changes. Kean and Delph off, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun on.
Luis Boa Morte has been booked, not very clear why though.

70’ - 2-2!! It’s just one of those Cup evenings isn’t it?! Keane’s clearing header doesn’t get too far and Bruno Andrade with an incredible volley from just inside the box that screams past Pickford, goalie had no chance. The Imps have looked better the last few minutes but that goal was a bolt from the blue.

67’ - Oooh Iwobi really wants a goal. The Blues drive forward through Sidibe on a counter, and Iwobi’s sizzling shot is just wide of the far post.

59’ - Penalty!! Schneiderlin (!!!) makes a driving run into the box, and is pulled down by a couple of defenders.
Sigurdsson to take.. GOAL!! Two steps.. top right corner, goalie going low to the left.
More shenanigans after the goal, with Siggy going to grab the ball and some pushing and shoving ensues in the goal. Pickford comes up and gets involved too as is Holgate, as always. Yellow cards handed out - Gylfi in the book as is Jason Shackell, but is also substituted. Consider it a small mercy for him, because Keane has turned him inside out so many times it’s a wonder he knows which goal hes defending. Pickford in the book too, for his part.

54’ - Lincoln have another corner, and once again plenty of grappling as Sidibe is hauled down going up for it, but once again the ref letting it go. Shades of Millwall away that.

50’ - Much like most of the first half, the second has begun with the Blues camped out in the final third, but no real chances yet.

46’ - No changes that we can see as the rain is now hammering down. Blues out first while the Imps are huddling in the tunnel.

Halftime - It’s 1-1 at the break, what an exciting half of football it’s been, for both sets of fans and neutrals as well.

44’ - Lincoln have a freekick from about where Digne took his goal, but it’s blocked by the wall and now the Blues break, but it comes to nothing.
Been end-to-end football, mostly in the Lincoln end.

41’ - Richarlison jinks in and out and then fires over from the left. Should really have centered it.

38’ - Pickford finds Kean streaking away on the right with a goalkick, he takes one step into the box and hammers it... off the post! So unlucky.
Now the Blues get away again after a Lincoln freekick, Iwobi centers for Richarlison and he puts it just wide off the post.

36’ - GOAL!!!! LUCAS DIGNE WITH A WORLDIE OF A FREEKICK!! Some shenanigans from the Imps ends up in a freekick from about 25 yards out, and Digne curls it right into the top corner, goalie has no chance at it whatsoever.

31’ - Another pair of corners ends in a tame Keane header straight at the goalie. That’s eight corners to the Blues now.
Whoa. Andrade gets on the end of a lazy missed block from Holgate, but his snapshot is well-wide.

28’ - Iwobi incredulous as he gets called for a foul from a dangerous area, the freekick goes right through the box - plenty of pushing and pulling of Blue shirts in the box, but referee letting it all go.
Kean hauled down on the break after doing well to control the ball.

24’ - Everton have eight shots to the Imps’ one, but they scored and right now that’s what matters. What’s more Everton than that eh?

21’ - Blues win another corner, Keane’s effort cleared from the far post, looked it like was going wide.
Now Kean has a chance, but can’t make good contact.

18’ - Digne getting plenty of joy out on the left, and he sets up Iwobi for a shot from the corner of the 18-yd box, and it stings the goalie’s palms. Corner.
Sigurdsson takes, Keane attacks, another corner. Bounces out to Delph, whose volley actually goes out for a throw in.

16’ - This is working perfectly for the Imps, early goal and now they can sit back and pick Everton off on the break, especially with both the Blues fullbacks pushing up high.

11’ - Short corner routine, Sigurdsson to Iwobi who sets up Delph for a shot from outside the box but its blocked.
Siggy then gets his foot to a volley in the box, but it’s parried away and Richarlison wins a corner on the right. Sigurdsson and Iwobi with a new routine, Delph’s cross into the box and cleared for another corner.
This one falls for Sigurdsson outside the box but his shot is high and wide.

9’ - Digne is getting very forward too, passing overall has been pretty crisp. Waiting for Iwobi and Kean to make some runs now.

6’ - Everton have been moving the ball around since the goal, but nothing incisive yet. Richarlison has been more involved early, which is a good sign considering how out of form he’s been.
Here’s the goal for those who didn’t see it - twenty seconds on the clock.

1’ - Lincoln City 1-0 already! That was quick. Everton defence all over the map as the Imps take a quick throw and find a man in the box, Jordan Pickford has no chance. Yikes.
Shambolic defending all around from the Blues - poor headed clearance from Djibril Sidibe, Morgan Schneiderlin lets his man jump without opposition, Michael Keane caught in two minds, Mason Holgate stood still in the middle and Lucas Digne too slow to cover the scorer.

We’re hearing that Seamus Coleman and Tom Davies have not even traveled to the East Midlands today. Here’s Marco’s lineup and subs -

Preview

Everton will be looking to bounce back from a disappointing outing at Villa Park on Friday, and as in all cup competitions, they’ll have to win today to keep alive any chance of ending the trophy drought.

Opponents Lincoln City will be familiar to the Blues, having visited Goodison Park just a few months ago in an FA Cup Third Round clash, with Everton prevailing 2-1 after two early goals from Ademola Lookman and Bernard.

Roared on by their home support, look for the Imps to give the Blues a torrid time on the ball and rely on setpieces to pump the ball into the Everton box. Marco Silva’s side have struggled to score this season with only one goal in 270+ minutes of action, is today the day they finally get that right?

Jean-Philippe Gbamin is the only player missing from Silva’s squad, and the manager has already said he’ll be looking to name the best side he can for this evening’s Carabao Cup Second Round clash.

Last Meeting

2-1 it ended to Everton in January with the Blues getting off to a bright start, but seemed to sit back after that allowing the visitors to get back into the game, through a setpiece. Marco Silva has already identified that as being the Imps main strength, and the Blues will look to their twin towers of Yerry Mina and Michael Keane to keep them out of trouble tonight.

Everton were last at Sincil Bank 26 years ago in what was a thriller of a Cup tie, with seven goals scored and the game going back and forth. Will we see the same tonight?
