Everton have been handed an away tie against Sheffield Wednesday in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

After a 4-2 victory away at Lincoln City on Wednesday night, the Toffees will now visit Lee Bullen’s men, who are currently seventh in the Championship. The match will take place during the week commencing September 23.

Last time they met, Everton knocked the Owls out of the same competition in the same round, beating them 3-0 at Hillsborough in September 2007 with a James McFadden brace and Ayegbeni Yakubu leading the way.

Wednesday were handed a bye against Bury and then beat Rotherham United to make it to the third round.

Everton have never won this competition, and were knocked out at this stage last year when Southampton beat them on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park in October.
