Andre Gomes had to leave the Everton draw at Crystal Palace just before halftime after sustaining an ankle injury, allowing Jean-Philippe Gbamin to come on and make his Toffees debut.

Speaking after the game, Marco Silva sounded hopeful regarding the severity of the injury.

“We hope it’s not serious with Andre. Let’s see in the next few hours. It’s an ankle injury. Let’s see what our medical staff say but we hope it’s not too serious.

”The moment the game changed was the injury to Andre. We started losing easy balls in the second half and they had two chances to score from moments we lost the ball. Even then, we had clear chances from Gylfi.”

The manager was disappointed with the stalemate, but felt the new signings will need more time to bed in. These are the risks you take when you make signings late in the transfer window after all.

“Tough game, competitive as you would expect. We lost Andre (Gomes), we were controlling the game, creating moments - it’s clear for me in some moments when you bring in new players they need time to adapt. Today was a good example, we lost some balls in zones we cannot.

”Our first half deserved something more. A clean sheet, the attitude was there. We lost some easy balls and if they didn’t happen we would have controlled the game until the end.”
