The Everton and Sharks players are all in the middle of the pitch mingling and thanking the fans. Good diplomacy exercise this, fantastic atmosphere here in Nairobi.
Goalie Issa Bwire will take the last kick, having saved two spotkicks, can he be the hero? Yes! High and into the roof of the net, and the Sharks have won!

Adeniran up now, two steps and goalie makes a great save low to his right. Beaten away!
Arege will take the Sharks fourth shot, big boy this centreforward, hard and low into the bottom left. Does the golf swing celebration, it’s 3-3 after four each.

Holtby next, matches Bowler’s kick right down the centre of the goal as the goalie dives away, GOAL!
Yida will take the Sharks penalty, coming down the middle and halts, then hits the left post and in. Innovative goal celebration there, it’s 2-2 now after three each.

Bowler will take the third spotkick, left-footed and right down the middle GOAL! as the goalie dives to his right.
Lemu will take the second one, short run up, low to the right and Lossl goes the wrong way. 1-1 after two kicks each.
Broadhead will take the next one, low to the left.. GOAL! Goalie goes the wrong way, firmly hit, no chance.
Sharks up next, goalscorer Abuya to take, blasted well over! Still 0-0 after one round of kicks.
Everton will go first, with Williams hitting it hard and low to the left.. and the goalie palms it away!
Fulltime - It’s 1-1 final score, and we’re going to have penalty kicks as there has to be a winner today.

90’ - Baningime gives away a late freekick, but the Sharks play it short and it’s eventually collected by Lossl.
87’ - The last member of the 22-man traveling squad is coming on now, defender Nathangelo Markelo replaces Gibson.
85’ - Brave attempt from Holtby going up against the goalie in the box, and beats him in the air too, but the ball nestles on the roof of the net instead.
80’ - Mwendwa goes down in the box as Robinson comes across him. Really looked like he dived there as there was contact. Ref says no penalty.
77’ - Lossl is a giant, wow. A Sharks player wafts a long distance shot towards the goal and it’s narrowly over, but the goalie looked to have it covered.
75’ - Bowler clattered down the right wing, Omondi will get a caution. Williams to take the freekick, it’s too far and off to the side to take direct. Poor attempt, well over the goal, though that needed to be dropped at the penalty spot.
72’ - Morgan Feeney will be coming on in a bit for Holgate, real hope for the kid to stick in the senior side this season.
67’ - Robinson swings in a dangerous cross, Broadhead gets his head to it and the goalie claws it away for a corner. Cleared for another corner, then they overcook the next attempt and the chance is gone.
65’ - Broadhead gets Holtby through on goal but a desperate late tackle prevents a shooting chance.
60’ - The Under-23s have sparked this game. It’s been much more even since the youngsters came on, keeping the Sharks out of their half while creating a lot more upfront. Williams, Adeniran and Bowler have done particularly well so far.
52’ - Bowler is doing well out on the right wing. Cuts in and shoots but it’s well over.
Bad turnover for the Sharks creates a chance for Williams who is tugged back. Penalty? No, just outside the box, it’s a freekick, a bit to the left.
Williams is going to take it himself.. low and goal!! The midfielder didn’t hit it too hard, kept it below the wall that jumped and beat the goalie in the far corner. Well hit, 1-1 now.

Low free-kick by Joe William@k_sharksfc 1 - 1 @Everton #EvertonInKenya pic.twitter.com/su0ZxokD7K
46’ - As expected, Silva has rung in the changes. Lossl has taken over in goal from Stek. Apart from the two centrehalves and Broadhead who came on earlier, every single first half player is off: Lossl; Robinson, Gibson, Holgate, Astley; Baningime, Adeniran, Williams; Broadhead, Hornby, Bowler
Scorer Abuya tries his luck from about 35 yards out, but it’s straight at Lossl who makes his first Everton save calmly.
Halftime Thoughts - The Blues have looked particularly suspect against the ball played behind the backline. Miscommunication and tired early-preseason legs to blame here.
Also the Everton midfield has struggled to keep the ball with the Sharks hounding them in the middle every time they’ve had possession. Walcott and Broadhead have been anonymous, and pinging it upfront to Niasse is being easily handled by the home side.

42’ - Gomes gets the second yellow card of the game. Hounded Sharks midfielder Yidah for well over 20 yards, taking a couple of nibbles before bringing him down.
40’ - Broadhead close! Walcott’s second touch of the half gets him near the byline, his cutback is good and met by the onrushing youngster who hits it high and wide.

33’ - Oooh! Baines this time loses the Sharks’ right winger who gets behind the line, but his shot from a narrow angle is well wide.
31’ - Blues have been better since the goal. Some neat short passing outside the box creates a chance, Walcott lays it off for the overlapping Connolly whose shot is blocked.
27’ - GOAL! The hosts lead! That was embarrassing. Holgate lost his man to a deep ball behind the line, and Abuya easily jinks past Stek and places the ball in the net. Yikes.
GOAL!

23’ - The hosts seem much fitter than the Blues, full of running but luckily for the visitors seem to have their shooting radar off.
20’ - Stekelenburg makes a complete hash of a clearance and that gives the Sharks a couple of sniffs at goal, but nothing serious.
18’ - Niasse making a right nuisance of himself, harrying and bullying the hosts.
13’ - Lookman is leaving the game, youngster Broadhead coming on for him.
9’ - Holgate goes in the book, hauling down the Sharks winger who made a neat turn and beat him handily upfield.
Looks like Lookman has picked up a niggle, he’s on the ground now.
3’ - Good start for the Blues, Holgate gets to a good freekick from Lookman curled into the box, but it’s just wide.
1’ - Looking like a 4-3-3 for the Blues, with Baines-Gibson-Holgate-Connolly across the back, Schneiderlin, Gomes & Davies in the middle and the trio of Lookman, Niasse and Walcott across the top.
Wouldn’t be an Everton stream if it’s not fraught with issues. Looks like a lot of members who are having trouble logging on and viewing the stream.
It feels like the season ended just a few weeks ago (it did), and yet here we are again, with Everton in action.
The Toffees started their preseason training a week ago and today play in the first friendly of the summer, in Nairobi, Kenya against local side Kariobangi Sharks. With a number of the first team players still away with their national sides or still on vacation after summer action, Marco Silva has ten of his senior side at his disposal along with a dozen Under-23 players.
Opponents Kariobangi Sharks qualified to play the Blues after winning the 8-team SportPesa Cup between Kenyan and Tanzanian sides. The Blues can expect a physical challenge from the side that finished 9th in the Kenyan Premier League last season, well behind Gor Mahia who won again and Everton had handily beaten 4-0 at Goodison Park last autumn.
