Spanish interest in Everton’s star midfielder

Barcelona’s on-loan Andre Gomes is raising eyebrows back in La Liga as well

Andre Gomes has enjoyed an excellent season so far at Everton on loan from Barcelona. The Toffees have already made it clear that converting that loan into a permanent deal is one of their summer priorities, but apart from Premier League interest it appears there a couple of Spanish sides that could be in for the player as well during the upcoming transfer window.

The 25-year-old midfielder ended up at the Nou Camp after a sparkling 2015-16 season for Valencia, and his former side are one of the teams being linked with making a move for the Portuguese player, while the other side named are Real Betis, who sit in mid-table but could make a late push for European spots late on.

According to the report from marginal Spanish media outlet El Gol (via SportWitness), both teams have been keeping a close eye on the player’s progress with the Blues this season.

Gomes started late with the Blues after sustaining a pre-season injury and then coming to Finch Farm on summer transfer deadline day, but has shone since then. He endured a torrid December-January when he looked exhausted playing every game for the Toffees while passing his minutes total from last season halfway through the season, but has since then looked much calmer and more composed on the ball after getting some rest as Everton meander aimlessly to the end of the season.

Neither club has the financial outlay that Everton will be able to show Barcelona when transfer conversations start in a couple of months, so there is no reason to believe that Gomes will be going anywhere but to the Toffees, for now.
