Everton vs Liverpool: Writer Prediction League

Previewing inevitable misery and suffering

I sat in front of my laptop for 15 minutes trying to come up with a witty way to open this post.

But it’s hard. Even after a (relatively unconvincing) 3-0 victory over Cardiff City, it’s just hard to see any way that Everton can realistically hope to beat Liverpool this weekend.

A few of our writers did pick the Toffees to win, as you’ll see in a little bit, but each of them submitted their picks to me with some kind of message like “gonna go for it!” or “probably a bad idea!”

That tells you all you need to know about the state of affairs at the club at the moment.

At any rate, let’s take a look back at the Tuesday match against Cardiff City before diving into the Merseyside Derby.

Cardiff City Predictions

Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Writer First Scorer Everton MOTM Winner Score Points
Adam B. Bamba Gomes Cardiff 1-0 0
Brian F. Richarlison Pickford Draw 1-1 0
Brian L. Tosun Gueye Everton 2-1 2
Calvin Richarlison Richarlison Everton 2-1 2
Chris Paterson Digne Draw 1-1 0
Geno Richarlison Sigurdsson Everton 2-1 3
Matt A. Richarlison Richarlison Everton 1-0 2
Matthew C. None Davies Draw 0-0 0
Pete None Digne Draw 0-0 0
Rachel Calvert-Lewin Sigurdsson Everton 1-0 3
Sean Richarlison Gueye Everton 2-1 2
Tom Richarlison Gomes Everton 2-0 2
Zach Richarlison Richarlison Everton 2-0 2

The majority of our writers got Everton’s victory correct, though no one foresaw the significant final scoreline. Tom and Zach were probably a little irritated with Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s late goal — an utterly meaningless one unless you picked a 2-0 scoreline like the two of them did.

Calvin comes out the week happiest, as he picked up points while yours truly picked up a big fat zero, allowing Calvin to extend his lead atop the table to double digits. For the rest of us, it’s getting late to mount a comeback.

Looking ahead to the Derby on Sunday, I’m a little surprised at how much confidence there is in Everton to get a result.

Liverpool Predictions

Sean Mane Gueye Draw 1-1 2
Tom Sigurdsson Sigurdsson Everton 2-1 0
Zach Sigurdsson Sigurdsson Everton 1-0 0

Five of our writers have Everton picking up a result of some sort — three wins and two draws. A draw, surely given the current form of both teams, would feel almost like a win.

Our writers were also impressed by Gylfi Sigurdsson’s two-goal performance against Cardiff, making him the top Everton MOTM candidate in what will surely be a match with limited Everton chances.
