Everton at Watford: Writer Prediction League

The second Marco Silva derby arrives with the manager’s new club behind his old club in the table

Few Everton predictions will ever be easier to make than last week’s.

With the Toffees in an immeasurable rut and a resurgent Manchester City in town, there was never really any doubt how the mid-week match would end, even if the Everton first half performance was a pleasant surprise.

This week, things get a little more tricky. The Toffees face a trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford, in what will surely be a chaotic atmosphere. Watford supporters haven’t even tried to hide their disdain for Marco Silva, the current Everton and former Watford manager accused of allowing an Everton approach to distract him from the job at hand last season.

Of course, with Silva in the midst of his third consecutive season in English football that started with great success and quickly descended into chaos, it seems more likely that Silva just isn’t a very good manager than that Everton caused a loss of focus while he was at Watford last season.

Before we look ahead to that match though, let’s take one last look at the City match.

Manchester City Predictions

Sean Aguero Pickford Manchester City 3-0 2
Tom Jesus Lookman Manchester City 3-0 2
Zach Jesus Davies Manchester City 37-0 2

Everybody correctly picked that Manchester City would win, but that was it. We all thought the match would ultimately be uglier for Everton than it was, and none of us picked Aymeric Laporte to open the scoring.

Because everyone earned two points this week, there’s no real change in our prediction league table.

This weekend’s match against Watford presents a slightly bigger challenge for our writers. Watford is in decent, but not spectacular form, and Everton’s away record is a well-known albatross around these parts.

The result is a mildly pessimistic view of Saturday’s match.

Watford Predictions

A Watford victory is the most popular result, beating out draw by one vote. We aren’t particularly sure who on Everton we ought to place faith in either, with our 11 participating writers spreading their Everton man of the match votes across six different players.
