In case you haven’t heard, Everton might not be very good.
The Toffees are coming off of a 3-1 home defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers in which Marco Silva’s side never really got out of first gear. Everton has taken eight points from a possible 33 since the start of December.
You might also have heard that Manchester City is pretty good at football. City bounced back from 2-1 loss against Newcastle United last week with a 3-1 victory over Arsenal on Sunday, closing the gap behind Liverpool to just three points.
That combination of factors has led our writers to a set of predictions unlike anything I’ve ever seen. But first, let’s quickly (and painfully) review our picks from last week.
Wolves Predictions

The pessimists among us were rewarded, none more than Chris, who got both the winner and final score correct.
RBM readers voted nearly unanimously that the Everton black cat should be the team’s man of the match. Andre Gomes won the award in the non-feline category, presumably because he at least did one thing right.
With those results, our prediction league standings look like the following.
Prediction League Table
Writer | Points |
---|---|
Writer | Points |
Calvin | 64 |
Rachel | 56 |
Adam B. | 53 |
Sean | 51 |
Geno | 51 |
Chris | 51 |
Matt A. | 51 |
Pete | 50 |
Brian L. | 49 |
Tom | 49 |
Matthew C. | 46 |
Brian F. | 45 |
Zach | 44 |
Calvin extended his lead atop the table, while both Chris and Rachel extended their runs of good form up into firmly mid-table positions.
None of our writers should hold out particularly high hopes that they’ll make up any ground in the standings this week, because our predictions all have something in common
Take a look.

Not only did every writer predict Manchester City victory, we all have the Toffees losing by two goals or more!
And yes, I did confirm, and Zach really elected to predict a 37-0 defeat.
