Some Everton players have been sending messages to sacked manager Marco Silva to thanks him for his time at the Blues, and to wish him well in the future.

Ironically, the first to go on social media was a youngster who has often been overlooked for a spot in the starting XI despite fan outcry time and again.

Anthony Gordon

Thanks for all the opportunities and advice you have given me, good luck boss

Next was a player who just signed a new deal to stay at Everton, and someone who considers Silva a father figure, and owes him a huge debt of gratitude for bringing him to England.

Richarlison

Thanks for everything, teacher! Especially for the care and attention that made me grow and become better in every way. I will never forget everything you did for me. I’ll always be in the crowd

Lucas Digne

Thank you so much Boss for your advice and your personality you change the man and the player all the best in your futur [sic] challenge.

Some players paid tribute to the great impact he had in teaching them aspects of the game.

Bernard

Thank you teacher for what you did for me. Thank you for all the opportunities and God bless your next step. I’ll always be rooting for you and your best.

Yerry Mina

Thank you teacher for everything you taught me as a player and as a person. God bless your way.

Fellow defender Michael Keane has been liking a lot of the Instagram posts thanking the manager as well.

Andre Gomes

Always hard when we see someone we appreciate leave. Thank you for everything, Boss! It was incredible to work with you and I’m sure you’ll succeed in your next chapter! All the best!

Even former Everton players have gotten into the act, with Gana sending him a message today too - Silva tried hard to keep hold of him, and you have to wonder how differently this season would have played out had the Blues not sold him over the summer.

Idrissa Gueye

All the best for the future #marcosilva

There’ll likely be more messages in the coming days for Silva, who remained very popular with the players right until the end of his Everton tenure.

However, out-on-loan Yannick Bolasie, one of the players rejected by Silva, only had a comment about caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson.

There were further messages of support for Big Dunc from former players, notably Kevin Kilbane, Kevin Campbell and Don Hutchinson.
