Fabian Delph has pulled out of the England squad and returned to Everton after failing to recover from a hamstring injury.

The 29-year-old had linked up with the Three Lions squad despite nursing a hamstring problem that caused him to miss Saturday’s win at Southampton.

England boss Gareth Southgate had hoped Delph would recover in time to feature in this week’s Euro 2020 qualifiers against against Montenegro and Kosovo.

However, after assessment by the medical team it has been decided that the former Manchester City man would be better off returning to Finch Farm for treatment.

Delph suffered the injury during the 1-1 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the start of the month.

He was able to return to light training on the Thursday before the Southampton game, but was not considered fit enough for the trip to St Mary’s.
