October International Break: The Everton Recap

Momentary respite or more struggles for the international Blues?

UEFA EURO 2020 qualifier group H”France v Turkye”

The international break couldn’t have come at a better time for Everton and Marco Silva. But did Everton’s internationals also struggle for form? Below we see how they got on.

England

Senior Team – Euro 2020 Qualifying: 1-2 vs Czech Republic, 6-0 vs Bulgaria

After storming through qualifying so far, the Three Lions hit their first speed bump as they lost 2-1 to in Prague, with both Jordan Pickford and Michael Keane starting. Pickford pulled off some eye-catching saves, but Keane was criticised once again for his performance after slipping at an inopportune moment from a corner which led to Czech Republic equalising.

Keane was then replaced by Tyrone Mings for the controversial 6-0 win in Sofia.

Under-21s – Euro 2021 Qualifying: 5-1 vs Austria

Tom Davies got some much-needed game time as he captained England under-21s to a thumping 5-1 win over Austria at Stadium mk.

Republic of Ireland

Senior Team – Euro 2020 Qualifying: 0-0 vs Georgia, 0-2 vs Switzerland

Seamus Coleman’s hopes of captaining his nation at a major championship took a big blow as Ireland dropped points at Georgia, before he was sent off (for the second time in a fortnight) after conceding a penalty in their 2-0 loss to group rivals, Switzerland. It now means that Ireland need to beat Denmark in Dublin in November to qualify, with Coleman unable to play due to suspension.

Brazil

Senior Team – Friendly: 1-1 vs Senegal, 1-1 vs Nigeria

Richarlison emerged from the bench twice for Brazil as they faced two African sides, but was unable to lead his side earn a win.

Colombia

Senior Team – Friendly: 0-0 vs Chile, 0-3 Algeria

Yerry Mina helped his side to a clean sheet against Chile, before watching from the bench as they collapsed to a Riyad Mahrez-inspired Algeria.

France

Senior Team – Euro 2020 Qualifying: 1-0 vs Iceland, 1-1 vs Turkey

Lucas Digne lined up against Gylfi Sigurdsson for France as they secured a 1-0 win over Iceland, but was left on the bench for their crunch tie against Turkey.

Iceland

Senior Team – Euro 2020 Qualifying: 0-1 vs France, 2-0 vs Andorra

Sigurdsson played both full games for Iceland as their qualification hopes hang on by a threat, although he missed yet another penalty in their 2-0 win over Andorra.

He’s now missed four of the last seven penalties he’s taken.

Turkey

Senior Team – Euro 2020 Qualifying: 1-0 vs Albania, 1-1 vs France

He may not be getting a look in at Everton, but Cenk Tosun is a key player for Turkey and scored a crucial 90th minute winner against Albania, before leading the line once again against France.

Nigeria

Senior Team – Friendly: 1-1 vs Brazil

Alex Iwobi started in a central attacking midfield role and impressed in their 1-1 draw against Brazil, before being replaced on 84 minutes. Will he get more chances in a central role given Gylfi’s struggles?
