The WSL is back!
Everton Ladies take on the WSL Champs Sunday in front of a sold out crowd at Kingsmeadow. The last time these two teams played in September, it ended in a 0-0 draw. Emma Hayes’ side is on a hot streak, having won seven straight while the Toffees are winless except for when they play Liverpool and then they win in spectacular fashion.
Chelsea are in 3rd place and Everton are currently in 9th, right below Liverpool.
The sold out crowd will certainly give Chelsea players a big boost. Their co-captain, Millie Bright, told Chelsea.com that playing Everton is always tough:
“It’s always an aggressive game with Everton. I think they’ll be looking to attack but we’re just making sure that we focus on ourselves and bring our best game on Sunday to get the job done.”
Everton’s starting goalie from last season, Lizzie Durack, left the club for Chelsea over the summer but has served as their 3rd string goalkeeper so far. Chelsea has just signed a 4th goalkeeper on Friday, Ann-Katrin Berger from Birminham City, so there will be even more competition in between the sticks. One would have to wonder if one of their goalies is about to transfer to another team. Share the wealth, Chelsea! Sheesh!
Prediction:
Chelsea 1, Everton 0
Lineup:
It should be interesting to see who will start up top for Everton: Hannah Cain or derby goalscorer Elise Hughes?
Will Durack get her first league start against her former team?
