So Everton have sent out a defensive midfielder on loan, but it’s not who we were worried about after all.

However, it is an interesting move because Beni Baningime is widely considered to be an heir apparent to Idrissa Gueye, and has trained with the seniors for most of this season while he was fit.

Baningime joins Everton legends Joe Royle and Peter Reid at Wigan Athletic where current Under-23s Antonee Robinson and Callum Connolly are also currently playing.

The 20-year-old will pair up with his brother Divin who is a striker with the Wigan Under-18 side for the rest of the season. Manager Paul Cook has been under fire for the Latics’ lowly standing and the Everton Under-23 manager David Unsworth has been linked with taking over at Wigan.

Baningime has only featured in two Under-23 games since returning from a long layoff for an ankle ailment, and has been training with the senior side since then, but is yet to make an appearance in a matchday squad.
