Fixtures involving Everton U21s for the upcoming Checkatrade Trophy (EFL Trophy) have been announced via Everton’s official website.

The Blues have been drawn into the Northern Group F against League One stalwarts Barnsley and Bradford City, as well as Oldham Athletic of League Two.

07:30, Tuesday, September 25 - Bradford City (Northern Commercial Stadium)

0730, Tuesday, October 30 - Oldham Athletic (Boundary Park)

0730, Tuesday, November 6 - Barnsley (Oakwell)

After a disappointing trophy run last year which saw the Toffees finish last in Northern Group G with three loses from three games, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see David Unsworth’s young side setting out with something to prove this time around.

The three teams they will look to impress against sit near the top, close to the bottom or mid table in there respective league competitions.

My expectation is that Barnsley will prove to be the toughest opponent going by their season so far which though still in the early stages has culminated with third in League One which ensures they are looking at promotion at the end of the season if they can keep it up.

Though a good test for the Premier League’s various academies the EFL Trophy is an important competition to those who call League One and Two home, therefore the up and coming academy products will need to bring their ‘a game’ to ensure progression through the group and knock out stages of the competition.

Remember to keep out eye on RBM for the results and corresponding recaps throughout the competition.
