Troy Deeney has never been afraid to speak his mind, and the Watford FC captain did so last night in his pundit role during the Monday night game between Southampton and Brighton & Hove Albion.

Everton and Watford appear to still be at loggerheads over the matter of Marco Silva, and last week we heard that the Hornets are still chasing an independent inquiry over the matter, with the possibility of a large fine and/or points deduction looming over the Blues.

However Watford’s captain Deeney still has nothing but good things to say about Silva, though he did feel the Toffees’ interest in him distracted the Portuguese manager.

“I think Marco Silva has probably been the best. I respected what he was doing and really enjoyed training every day. I liked how Silva set his stall out and dissected who he wanted in and out of his team in a three week period.

“I sensed a difference in him after he was linked with Everton. With anyone, when you get linked with moves or any kind of contract thoughts or things like that, your mind just comes off a fraction or two and it reflects to the players. I would expect him to take Everton to the next level.”

Deeney is off to an excellent start this season and so has his side, with Watford only losing their 100% winning record with a loss this weekend. However, he continues to be frustrated in is efforts to represent England as Gareth Southgate looks to the future. More on that and his views on his most talented teammates in the Daily Mail article here.
