Goals are hard to come by, just ask Cenk Tosun. While the likes of Richarlison, Theo Walcott and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have scored either a league or cup goal, Tosun is yet to share in those spoils, but not through a lack of trying.
Scoring drought aside, we have seen Tosun display an unrelenting work ethic in all four games played this 2018/2019 season which has included an average of 22 passes per game as well as 2 assists.
Tosun’s role in Marco Silva’s 4-3-3 appears to be quite different than that he played as a target man in the 4-2-3-1 last season. He shows a lot more mobility this season and by moving out wide he’s been creating room and mismatches for the wingers, which shows with the rest of the forward line grabbing goals already.
Now panic hasn’t set in amongst Evertonians just yet and former Everton Captain Kevin Campbell, who played 145 games in royal blue, feels that it shouldn’t. Speaking with Everton TV the former skipper not only backed Tosun but predicted a stellar season from the Turkish international through the support of a “fantastic attacking supply line”.
”I’m sure Cenk Tosun is rubbing his hands together because with those players in midfield and out wide supplying him crosses, he’s going to be licking his lips. He knows there’s going to be a lot more chances coming his way with this group of players”
“He is a good finisher and he hasn’t had a sustained supply line to know where his chances are going to come from”
“But he’s going to excel, I believe, when everyone beds in, and long may that continue”
“If he could get double figures, 15 or 20 goals, that would be great.”
Campbell who himself scored 45 goals, including 9 in his first 8 games at Goodison knows a little something or two about getting the ball into the back of net and he is just one of many Toffees waiting for that elusive Tosun strike.
