Fulltime Thoughts: Everton have been frustrating today, simply not incisive enough. It’s been an intense period, and the international break is a chance for Marco Silva to work on the zonal marking as well as getting sharper in the attacking half.
Richarlison was certainly missed today too, but the Blues should have enough quality to put away teams like this at Goodison Park. We go into the break now a little more concerned than we would have been with a win. Hopefully Walcott is alright, and we get a few players back to good health soon, it’s bare bones right now.
90’+5’: This will certainly feel like points dropped unfortunately. Frustrating.
88’: Niasse showing industry down the left, wins a late corner. Niasse sidefoots a volley from the Baines corner
86’: Now Morgan Schneiderlin is in the book too, grabbing Kachunga on a break.
75’: Shimmy from Lookman and then a low shot, inches away from Sigurdsson and DCL to score.
Silva makes the double sub, with Leighton Baines and Oumar Niasse now on for Digne and Sigurdsson.
73’: Hadergjonaj goes in the book for a shove on Holgate. I’m only typing this because I want to say that name again.. Hadergjonaj.
70’: Oh Seamus. His crossing just seems to be getting worse by the week, and it wasn’t great to begin with.
64’: Good application from Lookman there, helping Coleman back in defence. Gets a round of applause too.
63’: Tom Davies with a late sliding tackle, and he’s in the book too now.
56’: Ademola Lookman coming on for Walcott who is sitting down. He didn’t look right since he landed hard on his knee, was holding his hip.
54’: Holgate in the book now, deep in the Huddersfield half. Blatantly grabbing Mounie’s shirt to prevent a counter attack.
46’: We’re underway, and Tosun is fouled almost immediately. Nothing comes out of the freekick, straight to Lossl.
Halftime Thoughts: Blues will need to figure out how to unlock the Terriers defence, 9 attempts with only one on goal tells the tale. Aside from setpieces, Everton have been pretty comfortable defending, just need to be more incisive with the passing in the opposite half.
45’+2’: It’s 1-1 at the break. Blues controlled most of the half, but have found it hard to prise open the Huddersfield massed ranks in the back.
42’: The leveler certainly woke the Terriers, it’s been much more even since the two quick goals.
36’: It’s 1-1!! DCL with a fantastic flicked header from a Digne cross ties it up.
34’: Damned setpieces! DCL looks to be pushed in the back as he tries to head clear, ball goes off the top of his head and is headed in by Billing, no chance for Pickford. Huddersfield lead 1-0.
28’: Counter attack sees a shot from Tosun, but he puts it well over.
20’: Pickford comes out to punch a high cross successfully; he looks somewhat uncomfortable and is working that right shoulder.
18’: Cross comes in from the right and it’s well-high, and there’s uproar at Goodison as Cenk Tosun is bundled over. The striker is very unhappy and tells the ref exactly what he thinks.
16’: Coleman shot well wide. Nice turn at the edge of the box and has a shooting channel, but it’s clear of the far post. 64% possession for the Blues.
13’: Zouma! Took a seeing-eye shot from way out and it bobbled and weaved in the air before going past Lossl’s right post. Good attempt, goalie was beaten.
11’: Everton giving away the ball cheaply at times, but have looked creative in the opening few minutes.
4’: Billing goes in the book for a late challenge on Kurt Zouma.
1’: And we’re off! Blues in a 4-2-3-1, visitors Huddersfield are in a 5-4-1 formation.
The teams come out to Z-Cars.. there was footage of captain Seamus Coleman in the tunnel there in another zone, completely tuning out everything around him. Also saw Lookman walk by, looking pretty positive, high-fiving and fist-bumping every member of the starting XI.
Starting lineups: So Dominic Calvert-Lewin gets the start on the left wing, with Ademola Lookman on the bench. Lucas Digne is also in, with Leighton Baines on the bench. Tyias Browning is the only CB substitute the Blues have, after playing for the U-23s last night.
The international break is coming up after this weekend’s fixtures, and Marco Silva will be looking for maximum points today to sit comfortably four games into the season.
Everton host Huddersfield Town looking to keep their unbeaten run to start the season while the visitors have staggered out of the gates, getting hammered by Manchester City and Chelsea.
The Blues have some serious suspension and injury woes, but will still have Ademola Lookman in the ranks later today.
