Everton today completed the signing of Colombian defender Yerry Mina from Barcelona
The player will wear the #13 shirt for the Toffees, after previously wearing the #24 for Barcelona and #26 before that for Palmeiras. In his last Colombia appearance, at the 2018 World Cup, he wore the #13 jersey also.
Mina is showing he’s not superstitious with the number choice, like these players in Everton history before him - Eliaquim Mangala (17/18), Iain Turner (05/06), Steve Simonsen (00/01 - 03/04), Paul Gerrard (96/97 - 99/00), Jason Kearton (95/96).
Everton will certainly be hoping to get nothing but good luck out of Mina, especially after spending about £28 million on him, but let’s see how he transitions to England.
Speaking at his signing earlier today, Mina said -
“It is important that the Club want to fight for something. This is why I am here.
“I have watched the Premier League for a long time. It is the best league in the world. This is a great opportunity for me and I am looking forward to competing here.
“I know about Everton’s players and I look forward to being able to play with my new team. I have spoken a lot to the coach and I know his passion for Everton and determination to be successful. I am also determined to do my best for Everton.”
