England Under-21 manager Aidy Boothroyd has named a 23-man squad for next month’s European U21 Championship qualifiers, with Everton once again providing the core of the squad.
Defender Jonjoe Kenny, midfielders Tom Davies & Kieran Dowell, and forwards Dominic Calvert-Lewin & Ademola Lookman have been part of the setup for some time now and all retain their spots. Defender/midfielder Callum Connolly has been in the squad previously but has not been called up, though once he starts getting regular games for his loan club Wigan Athletic should come back into the fold.
There were some surprise omissions from the Young Lions announcement with Phil Foden and Jadon Sancho also overlooked, while Chelsea’s on-loan midfielder Mason Mount (at Derby County) and Crystal Palace left-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka have been rewarded for strong starts to the season.
Goalkeepers: Angus Gunn (Southampton), Dean Henderson (Sheffield United, on loan from Manchester United), Freddie Woodman (Newcastle)
