Once Everton confirmed the signing of leftback Lucas Digne to backup Leighton Baines, it was clear that starlet Antonee Robinson would be sent on loan again this season to continue to develop.

Both Bolton Wanderers where he spent the 2017-18 season and Wigan Athletic were considered to be in play for the youngster, but it appears now the Latics have won out.

Robinson’s current contract was going to be up at the end of this season, so the Toffees have addressed that by signing him to a new three-year deal as well.

Robinson has picked up two international caps with the USMNT this summer, and was one of the Trotters’ better players last season, featuring in 34 games with 5 assists from both the left back and left wingback positions.

Everton have been uninspiring this preseason but Robinson has been one of the standout performers. The 20-year-old will likely be with the senior squad starting next season with Baines unlikely to return next year, and the pairing of Digne-Robinson targeted as the left backs for the future.
