Everton kick off their first cup campaign under new manager Marco Silva tomorrow in the Carabao Cup. The League Cup remains the one domestic trophy the Blues have never lifted and will host Championship side Rotherham United in the Second Round clash of this year’s competition.
Under manager Paul Warne, the Millers won the playoff promotion spot last season to come up from League One just a season after getting relegated from the Championship. Rotherham are off to a slow start this season, sitting in 15th place after two wins and three losses.
The Blues are going to have to line up some players who haven’t had many minutes yet this season as the effects of early season injuries and suspensions start weighing heavily on Silva’s squad selections.
With Everton’s trophy drought now well over two decades, the manager will be well aware that he can’t take this competition or the opponents lightly.
