Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of Everton’s trip to AFC Bournemouth this weekend, Marco Silva has said that key midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin will miss the match due to an injury to his hamstring.

Schneiderlin had to leave Everton’s home opener last weekend against his former side Southampton with an ailment after just twenty-odd minutes. Immediately after the game Silva said that he would wait for initial tests before saying how long the player would miss, but there have been no updates from the Blues this week before today.

Later in the press conference Silva did add that Schneiderlin should resume training on Monday which is a good sign that the injury is likely just a minor muscle tweak.

Tom Davies stepped in after the Frenchman’s exit, with Idrissa Gueye dropping further back to take Schneiderlin’s spot and while there was a short period of adjustment that allowed the Saints a glimmer of hope, the pair did well in their new roles as the Blues closed out the 2-1 win.

After the game, Davies was full of praise for his fellow midfielder Gana -

“He’s top class. I don’t think he gets the plaudits he deserves but over the last two seasons he’s been class and I’m sure he’ll have another great year.

“Even playing against him in training, you don’t get a minute. I’m always looking to see where he is and in a game he’s good to have next to you.

“If someone gets past you, you think ‘he’s there’. He’s a good player to learn off.”
