Everton fans are going to have to wait to see their two newest players from Barcelona as Yerry Mina is carrying a minor foot injury and Andre Gomes still has a muscle ailment. Bernard has only been in training a few days after an injury layoff so he’ll be short on match fitness.
Marco Silva is going to have some thinking to do about his starting lineup, beginning with who to replace Phil Jagielka with. Mason Holgate did well in the second half coming on for the red-carded captain. Kurt Zouma on the other hand is slightly more experienced but still new to the club and his teammates.
Similarly at leftback, Leighton Baines had an excellent game last week and in Richarlison in front of him he’s discovered the elixir of youth. The fullback had the most touches of any Everton player and it would be hard to drop him on the basis of how well he played at Wolves. Lucas Digne came on late after Richarlison went off with cramps, and looked quite comfortable right away.
The Brazilian winger who bagged a brace last weekend is fit and ready to go as well, as confirmed by Silva yesterday.
For Southampton, Mark Hughes will be sweating the fitness of two new signings. Forward Mohamed Elyounoussi sparked the Saints when he came on in the second half, but looks to have discounted himself after picking up a hamstring issue. Midfielder Stuart Armstrong picked up a knock against Burnley but looks to have recovered and is fit again.
