95’: Blues give up the ball late, late in the game but the ref blows the final whistle and Everton start off the home portion of the season with a 2-1 win!!
90’: There’ll be five more minutes minimum.
85’: Marco Silva not one to batten down the hatches, he brings on Oumar Niasse for Richarlison!
75’: Dominic Calvert-Lewin on for Cenk Tosun to try kill off the Saints who have three strikers on the pitch. Tosun has worked hard again, unfortunate not to get in the goals yet.
69’: Former Saint Theo denied his second goal of the game, assistant referee calls him offside, it was very tight. Seconds later he fires just wide after a fantastic move with Sigurdsson.
54’: That was coming. Former Liverpool striker Danny Ings comes free at a corner and beats Pickford. It’s 2-1, from another setpiece.
53’: Southampton have looked more determined after the break, Blues in game-management mode.
46’: And we’re underway again!
Halftime: This has been exhilarating from the Blues! Wow, what a difference Marco Silva has made! Southampton under Mark Hughes have looked like Stoke City under Mark ughes, with four players in the book in the first half as Everton have run rampant.
31’: It’s 2-0! Richarlison with a header from a cross by Walcott, and the Blues are cruising!
24’: Morgan Schneiderlin has to leave with an injury, shame because he’s looked quite decent. Tom Davies is on now. Davies had the late equalizer against the Saints right here in May.
20”: Oh Jordan! Pickford drops a shot right at him, and Danny Ings sticks a boot in, but Pickford deflects it onto the crossbar.
15’: Of course the opener had to come from a setpiece after all that. Nifty little move from a freekick found Theo Walcott running free and he puts Everton ahead!
10’: Everton breaking out all the training ground moves at setpieces, for England manager Gareth Southgate likely, who is sitting with Marcel Brands.
5’: Saints get us underway and have an early corner but Pickford takes easily.
What a sight watching Seamus Coleman leading out the Blues onto the Goodison turf with Z-Cars blaring!
Lineups: Silva chooses continuity with Mason Holgate coming in. and Kurt Zouma on the bench. No Bernard or Lucas Digne on the bench, but Ademola Lookman makes an appearance. And this ⬇️ finally happened!

COYB!
What is this feeling welling up in our hearts after just one game.. could it be hope? Everton put in a strong performance with equal parts discipline and style last weekend at Wolves, and fans will want even better at a charged Goodison Park for the first home of the season.
Marco Silva says he is excited for his home debut, so will he unleash the horses tomorrow or will he play responsibly first and foremost and let the crowd takeover? The starting lineup will give us more clues.
