Reports of imminent defender deal denied

It had been suggested earlier this week that a move was imminent

Everton are apparently NOT interested in Stade Rennais centre-back Ramy Bensebaini, despite earlier reports suggesting a deal was close.

It was claimed earlier this week in a Daily Star “exclusive” that the Toffees were closing in on a £13.5m deal for the Algeria international.

However, the Liverpool Echo, presumably after checking it out with their own sources, say those reports are false and Everton have no interest in Bensebaini at this stage.

The Echo goes on to say that Barcelona and Colombia defender Yerry Mina remains their main transfer target.

Everton are clearly in the hunt for a new defender this summer with a left-footed centre-half a priority following the departure of Ramiro Funes Mori.

Given Bensebaini is left-footed with the ability to dribble the ball out of defence and play in midfield it’s little surprise he’s caught Everton’s interest.

My guess is Everton have scouted Bensebaini, maybe even made initial enquiries, but only part of their wider hunt for defensive reinforcements.

Like every transfer rumour surrounding Everton this summer: treat with caution and only truly believe a deal is done when he’s holding that scarf up at Finch Farm!
