Everton appear to be very close to signing left back Lucas Digne from Barcelona, with some outlets even reporting that the deal is already done and to be announced on Monday.

Which makes sense that the Blues have let young defender Antonee Robinson know that he is free to explore another loan with Bolton Wanderers where he spent the last season, as reported by the Daily Mail. Additionally, the Toffees realize the potential they have on their hands with the youngster as they’re going to ensure he signs a new deal first.

The American’s current contract expires at the end of this season and the Blues will be looking to lock him up on a long-term contract as they look to secure the future of the position with Leighton Baines in his waning years and the 33-year-old’s contract also ending with the 2018-19 season.

Robinson has picked up two international caps with the USMNT this summer, and was one of the Trotters’ better players last season, featuring in 34 games with 5 assists from both the left back and left wingback positions.

Everton have been uninspiring this preseason but Robinson has been one of the standout performers. The 20-year-old will likely be with the senior squad starting next season with Baines unlikely to return next year, and the pairing of Digne-Robinson targeted as the left backs for the future.
