There was a trialist who came on for forward Chloe Kelly in the preseason derby on Sunday and it looks like she made the cut. Everton have signed Hannah Cain, an England U20 player who is currently sidelined from international duty due to an injury.
This is Cain’s first full-time professional contract, having joined the squad from Sheffield Ladies, a team from the second tier of women’s football that recently left the FA because they could not meet the new financial requirements.
Cain won the Supporters’ Player award for Sheffield at the end of last season.
Joining Everton is a dream come true for her:
“It’s what every girl who plays football dreams of as a youngster, to be a professional. It’s been a long time coming. It’s amazing.”
“On the pitch, I’d say I’m quick, I’m direct and I’m quite creative. So, if we need a spark in the game, I’d like to think I can bring that.
Her outlook is very positive:
“I feel like I’ve got a lot to offer, so hopefully this season I can show that and score lots of goals and win lots of games.”
We couldn’t agree more. Welcome to the club, Hannah!

There will be three Blue Girls participating in the Women’s Under-20 World Cup for England. Megan Finnigan, Taylor Hinds, and Chloe Kelly will be making the trip to France this week for the tournament which lasts from August 5th to the 24th.
They will be in a rather difficult group, which includes Brazil, Mexico, and North Korea. If England advances, Everton Ladies may be without their top goalscorer, Kelly, a midfielder and a fullback for the first Continental Cup games, which begins on August 18th.
Regular season games begin on September 8th.
