The transfer window can, as you know, be a roller coaster. Just yesterday it appeared that Barcelona center back Yerry Mina was nearing his long-rumored move to Everton, with a happy conclusion for all parties.
Today, though, Lyon have entered the frame, and according to L’Equipe, the Colombian defender prefers the French side, for their Champions League football.
Sans le citer, Jean-Michel Aulas sous-entend qu’il a parlé à Yerry Mina et que celui-ci lui a expliqué qu’il préférait disputer la C1 avec Lyon que rejoindre Everton. Reste l’aspect financier... @lequipe #lequipeMercato

The Blues can likely offer a higher wage packet than Lyon, but if the French side can at least get close to the current number being discussed, you certainly can’t blame Mina for wanting to perform on the biggest stage.
This is the conundrum that Everton find themselves in - they have the resources to afford quality players, but not the international reputation to draw them. They could yet get there - Tottenham Hotspur have done so - but it may be an arduous process, particularly if the team’s current players continue underperforming.
If Mina is indeed out of the question, Everton need to move quickly. A new center back is a must prior to facing Wolves on August 11.
