Everton had all but four players on their current squad report to Finch Farm for the first day of preseason training, including a number of players who have been linked with moves away this summer.

Kevin Mirallas underwent a torrid season last year, going out on loan to Olympiakos and eventually having that deal terminated for underperforming. He still has three more years on his current contract though it is very unlikely he plays out that term with the Blues.

Morgan Schneiderlin has been reported to be seeking a move away, likely to Olympique Marseille in France, but he was at training today too, as was Davy Klaassen who failed to break into the squad on multiple occasions last season.

There has been some interest from other sides for three players: Oumar Niasse, Yannick Bolasie and Muhamed Besic, but they were also present today. Youngster Ademola Lookman left on loan last season unhappy with the lack of playing time under Sam Allardyce, but he was at training too.

Ashley Williams is another player that is not expected to be part of the squad when the transfer window closes in about five weeks, but appeared today as he continues his rehabilitation from broken ribs and a punctured lung sustained a month ago playing for Wales during an international friendly against Mexico.

Two other players coming back from injuries were at Finch Farm today too - James McCarthy, who sustained a gruesome leg break last season, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who picked up a stress fracture in his back, are both working their way back to fitness.

Of the four players not present today, Luke Garbutt has been shipped out on loan while of remaining trio Jordan Pickford is still involved at the World Cup, with Gylfi Sigurdsson and Idrissa Gueye on a much-deserved holiday following their elimination from the global showcase.

UPDATE: It looks like youngster Antonee Robinson has been promoted to the senior side and is also in preseason training with the first team.
