Everton’s youth provided the backbone for another England U21s’ win at the annual Toulon Tournament, their third on the trot.

Kieran Dowell was the architect of the win, scoring the winning goal and even came close to assisting on a third as Chelsea’s Tammy Abraham hit the post.

Also in the starting lineup for the tourney-winning side were Jonjoe Kenny and Callum Connolly while Tom Davies was on the bench and will also get a winner’s medal.

Connolly had scored England’s opener in the semi-final against Scotland, a game the Young Lions went on to win 3-1.

Forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin missed out on the tournament after sustaining a stress fracture in his back late in Everton’s Premier League campaign. Ademola Lookman was also overlooked with the youngster’s future at the Toffees still hanging in the balance after RB Leipzig as well as Tottenham Hotspur have experienced their interest in the player.
