One of the crucial ways to see success under any new manager is the players buying into the system and instruction. Granted, most professionals at the Premier League level are mature enough to do this, but it helps to believe in what you’re hearing on the training ground.

To that end, Everton captain Phil Jagielka has spoken about Marco Silva’s appointment, and he’s excited to get to work.

Everyone I’ve spoken to about him has said they’ve really enjoyed playing under him,” he said.

I’ve got a few good friends at Watford and Hull and I haven’t heard a bad word said about him. He’s got high standards. He’ll expect us to work hard and train hard – and he’ll let us know exactly what he expects from us.

I know the players and the fans will all get behind him. We have a new manager and new ideas and everyone will be super excited.

It remains to be seen what kind of role Jagielka will have under Silva, particularly if Everton purchase a center back. Phil has a contract, though, and as such should remain the club captain, which means his words will continue to carry heavy weight around the organization. Lets hope Jags’ teammates follow his lead.
