Your daily dose of Everton news and rumours

There was only one real piece of news yesterday, but what a whopper it was as Everton finally announced the appointment of Marco Silva as the club’s new manager. We had wall-to-wall coverage of the confirmation here on Royal Blue Mersey, but before we get into that there were a couple of smaller news items that hit the airwaves too.

  • The Blues’ first preseason opponent was named, and it’s a good team too. Valencia from La Liga will be coming to Goodison Park. [RBM]
  • A name previously linked with the Toffees came up again, despite Patrick van Aanholt’s former manager at Crystal Palace Sam Allardyce not being in charge here anymore. [Sports Mole]

So let’s get into it, all the news you need from the Silva signing -

  • First off, we heard that yesterday would be the day the announcement was made official. [RBM]
  • Then there were some quotes from Silva as he quickly displayed he understood what was required of him as Everton manager. [RBM]
  • Marcel Brands confirmed that his vision for the Blues was matched by Silva. [RBM]
  • We learned the composition of Silva’s backroom staff, with just one member staying on from previous regimes. [RBM]
  • Silva’s first full interview showed a man who has an excellent grasp of the game and what it means to be an Evertonian. [RBM]
  • Farhad Moshiri and Bill Kenwright weighed in as well on the new gaffer and his qualities. [RBM]
