At first glance, this rumor doesn’t make much sense.
At second glance, this rumor makes even less sense.
However, we report on news and rumors, so it is my duty to tell you that according to one of Sevilla’s local newspapers (generally a good source on matters pertaining to this La Liga club), Everton are interested in Colombian striker Luis Muriel.
The 27 year old moved from Sampdoria to Spain just last year, and bagged 9 goals and 4 assists across 46 appearances in all competitions for Sevilla - a fairly pedestrian return (Oumar Niasse had 12 and 4 in 27 appearances, for example).
Muriel did make Colombia’s preliminary World Cup roster, but faces competition from the likes of Radamel Falcao and Carlos Bacca. He would also face plenty of competition at Everton, and from players more accomplished than he is.
Cenk Tosun, Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Niasse have all proven their worth in various ways, and so it makes precious little sense to bring in another striking option that is a) not a clear upgrade, and b) has ceded playing time to Sandro Ramirez.
You can keep Sandro, Sevilla. We’ll pass on taking Luis Muriel back in return.
