Everton Ladies won 3-1 against last place Yeovil Town Wednesday night at Marine Travel Arena. There were a few changes in the lineup since the Blues’ last game, with Faye Bryson and Mollie Green starting.

Captain Dan Turner started off the scoring in the 35th minute with a cracker into the top corner. At the end of the first half, Jodie Brett was fouled in the box and Everton was awarded a penalty kick, but striker Courtney Sweetman-Kirk’s shot was denied by Yeovil Town’s keeper.

Yeovil then scored the first goal of their season when Libby Piggott made it 1-1 from close range in the second half but Everton regrouped and England U-19 Mollie Green soon made it 2-1 off of a Sweetman-Kirk assist.

Late in the game substitute Chloe Kelly was brought down in the box and Green drilled the penalty into the corner to make it 3-1.

Young players Elise Hughes and Emma Doyle received some game time in the final minutes of the game.

The win caused a major shakeup on the WSL table - before the game, Everton were in 9th, and now they are in 7th. Up the Toffees!

Woman of the Match:

Mollie Green told the WSL website about her brace -

”Personally I felt at fault for the first goal, and I felt I had to do something to rectify it, and what better way to do that than by scoring for the team?

“Hats off to the whole team tonight, we played some really nice football and I think that 3-1 is a good reflection on the game.”
