A week after a match against Manchester City went pretty much how we all expected, Everton faces another stiff test — Liverpool at Goodison Park.
And as always, we at Royal Blue Mersey are here to provide predictions ahead of this match, even if the reality of this match cuts into our very souls (for most of us, it does).
But before we look ahead to the pain ahead of us, let’s take one more look back at the pain we just endured. Our predictions for the City match are below, with correct guesses in bold.
Manchester City Predictions
Writer | First Scorer | Everton MOTM | Winner | Score | Points |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Writer | First Scorer | Everton MOTM | Winner | Score | Points |
Adam | Bernardo Silva | Davies | City | 2-1 | 3 |
Brian F. | Jesus | Pickford | City | 3-1 | 4 |
Brian L. | Tosun | Tosun | City | 3-1 | 4 |
Calvin | Sterling | Pickford | City | 3-2 | 2 |
Chris | Sane | Coleman | City | 4-0 | 3 |
Matt | Sterling | Tosun | City | 4-1 | 2 |
Mike | Sane | Pickford | City | 3-0 | 3 |
Sean | De Bruyne | Pickford | Draw | 1-1 | 0 |
Tom | Sterling | Pickford | Draw | 1-1 | 0 |
Tyler | David Silva | Pickford | Draw | 2-2 | 0 |
Zach | Tosun | Pickford | Everton | 2-1 | 0 |
Seven of 11 writers picked the correct winner, with both Brians getting the score right as well. Chris and Mike both got Leroy Sane correct as the match’s first goalscorer, while I was the only one to correctly predict Tom Davies as the Everton Man of the Match.
The prediction league standings are pretty unchanged given those results.

Mike picked up another point at the top of the table over Calvin, while both Brians helped to cement their mid-table position.
This week, Everton faces Liverpool — with the Reds of Merseyside in the midst of a Champions League tie with last week’s opponents, Manchester City. It seems reasonable to think that Jurgen Klopp’s might rest some starters for this match, given his club’s dominance over Everton and Tuesday’s return leg against City.
Even given that advantage though, we aren’t particularly high on Everton’s chances.
Liverpool Predictions

Zach | Woodburn | Pickford | Draw | 1-1 | 3 |
Six writers are predicting Liverpool wins, with four picking draws, and Tom the lone man to pick Everton to win.
The first goalscorer column is a varied group, likely because we’re simply not sure who will play for Liverpool on Saturday. Roberto Firmino has a vote, but so does 18-year-old Ben Woodburn — with players of varying importance between those two in consideration as well.
The Everton Man of the Match voting is a little more concentrated. Jordan Pickford got three votes, with Tom Davies, Theo Walcott, and Wayne Rooney each garnering two.
