Everton haven’t lost to Huddersfield Town since 1956 in what was then known as Division One of the League. We’re talking about pre-Beatlemania here, folks. Of course, that’s mostly because these two clubs haven’t played each other very much. In fact, the Toffees’ 2-0 victory back in December was their first meeting since August 2010. Prior to that, the clubs hadn’t faced off since two League Cup ties in 1998.
The Terriers look to be safe from the drop. They sit in 16th place, six points above 18th-place Southampton. Huddersfield can clinch another season in the top flight with a draw against Everton or a loss by the Saints, who host Bournemouth this weekend.
Everton have totally taken on their manager’s identity in recent weeks. It’s not been pretty to watch, but the Blues have ground out results. Since the loss to Burnley at the start of March, Everton have played six matches and have taken 11 points. Not a bad haul for a club that has been on a rollercoaster path for most of the season.
